Student retention underway

The General Optical Council (GOC) today issued retention forms to all registered students. Students must complete and return the form, together with the £20 retention fee by 15 July 2007 - news - 5 April

Opticians removed from the registers

The General Optical Council (GOC) removed a total of 602 optometrists and dispensing opticians from its registers today. In addition 50 bodies corporate were removed - press release - 3 April

Pro rata fees for new registrants

Council to become smaller and more 'board-like'

The GOC will propose that it reduces the size of its Council to a maximum of 13 members. The move is in line with the Government's recommendation in its recent White Paper, Trust, Assurance and Safety, for regulatory governing bodies to become smaller and more 'board-like' - news - 22 March

Following the publication of the Government's White Paper, Trust, Assurance and Safety,the General Optical Council agreed to form a project board to lead and coordinate implementation activities - news - 22 March

GOC accepts new guidance on sale and supply of optical appliances

At its meeting of 22 March, the Council accepted the revised guidance of the College of Optometrists and ABDO relating to the sale, supply and fitting of contact lenses, including plano lenses - news - 22 March

Council elects deputy chairman and treasurer

Geoff Harris and Moira Black have been re-appointed as deputy chairman and treasurer of Council respectively - news - 22 March

Retention deadline now passed

The deadline for retention forms and payments has now passed. A total of 16,327 (89.52%) registrants successfully applied for retention by the 15 March deadline - news - 16 March 2007

Two weeks to retention deadline

All full registrants must apply for retention in the Opticians Register within the next two weeks, to avoid removal on 1 April - news - 1 March 2007

GOC appoints new lay member of Council

The General Optical Council (GOC) has appointed Stuart Heatherington as a lay member of Council. He will serve a five-year term of office - press release - 27 February 2007
