GOC recruiting dispensing optician for Investigation Committee

25 Apr 2013

Back to news listing

The General Optical Council (GOC) has today launched a campaign to recruit a new dispensing optician to its Investigation Committee (IC).

IC analyses allegations about registrants and decides whether further action is required – for example issuing a warning, a performance review or, in the most serious cases, referral to the Fitness to Practise Panel.

GOC Director of Regulation Mandie Lavin said, “The role is extremely important in protecting the public and upholding confidence in the profession. I’d encourage any dispensing optician who thinks they have the right skills and experience to consider applying.”

IC currently meets ten times a year; as well as attending these meetings in London, members must also set aside another day beforehand for reading. There is no salary but a day’s attendance fee and a reading fee is paid for each meeting as well as expenses for travel and subsistence.

The closing date for applications is 17:00 on 20 May.
