The General Optical Council (GOC) has now opened its public consultation on proposed changes to its Committee Constitution Rules 2005.

Once finalised, the revised Rules will change the way in which the Council’s statutory committees are populated. The consultation considers possible circumstances that may disqualify an individual from being appointed as a Committee member. Possible reasons for the suspension and removal of future committee members are also outlined in the consultation.

The reconstitution of the Council's committees follows recommendations in the Government’s White Paper on healthcare regulation reform. The White Paper has also resulted in the reconstitution of the Council itself. From April 1 2009, the number of Council members will reduce from 28 to 12. Read more about the recruitment of new Council members in our vacancies section, or visit www.appointments.org.uk.

The consultation on the constitution of statutory committees will be open until 7 November 2008.
