Student retention: don't miss 15 July!

19 May 2009

Back to news listing

The General Optical Council (GOC) is reminding all student registrants to apply for retention by 15 July 2009, or face a late application penalty. There are now nine weeks to go until the deadline and so far, 1091 students have successfully renewed their registration for 2009-10. This leaves 3241 applications still outstanding.

GOC registration is a legal requirement for both optometry and dispensing optics students. Applying for retention is easy: students must complete and return an application for student retention form, together with the £20 fee, by 15 July 2009 if they are to stay on the registers for the next academic year. A £10 late application penalty applies to students who get their application in after 15 July but before the 31 August. Students who fail to renew by 31 August face removal from the student registers. Those removed who wish to continue with their course will need to restore to the registers at a cost of £40.

Any students who have not received their application form should contact the registration team on 020 7580 3898 (option 1) to update their contact details. Alternatively, email goc@optical.org, or download a form. Students who renew their registration now but decide not continue with their course in September will receive a full refund.
