Student retention deadline now passed

21 Jul 2009

Back to news listing

The deadline for student retention has now passed. Overall, 3515 students successfully renewed their GOC registration by the deadline, leaving 862 applications outstanding. When compared to last year, this is a reduction of almost 10 per cent, when 956 applications were outstanding at the deadline. In addition, five withdrawal notices have been received. Reminder letters have been sent to those students who have yet to renew their registration.

For those who missed the 15 July deadline, the cost of renewing registration has increased to £30: a late application fee of £10 is now applicable in addition to the usual £20 fee. If the £10 late application penalty is not included, the form and payment will be returned to the registrant. Those who have not yet applied for retention must do so by 31 August, or face removal from the registers on 1 September.

Student registration is a legal requirement. Those who are not registered during their course may be excluded from clinical training and examinations. The GOC may not recognise the qualifications of applicants for full registration who were not registered for all or part of their training.

Students who pay now but decide not continue with their course in September will receive a full refund.
