Rumney to chair Standards Committee

25 Jan 2008

Back to news listing

The GOC Standards Committee opened the first meeting of the year by electing Nick Rumney as their new chairman. Nick was voted in to replace Professor Roger Buckley who retired from Council at the end of last year. He is the first optometrist to chair the Committee, and will serve for a minimum of one year.

On his election, Nick said: “It is a great honour to be elected as the second chair of the GOC Standards Committee. We have inherited a busy agenda but continue to work with tremendous goodwill from all optical bodies in our consultative processes. The optical professions are once again at a threshold. Optometrists’ scope of practice is poised to encompass therapeutics, whilst dispensing optician colleagues continue to fight for recognition and funding. Clearly, there is much to do.”

The Standards Committee, which meets three times a year, advises and gives assistance to Council on the standards of conduct and performance expected of current and potential registrants. For more information about committees, and to read confirmed minutes, visit how we work.
