Removals from the register to be made on 6 April

1 Apr 2010

Back to news listing

Removals from the General Optical Council's registers following the end of this year's retention process will be made on 6 April. Current GOC registration will remain valid up to and including 5 April. Practitioners' current registration status can be confirmed by using the ‘search the registers’ function from the GOC website.

Registrants who have failed to apply for retention and/or complete the required amount of Continuing Education and Training (CET) in the last cycle will be removed from the registers on 6 April. Practitioners who have otherwise met the requirements, but who have gained insufficient points to renew their specialty will have the entry relating to the specialty removed from their name in the registers.

Any registrant who is removed from the register but wishes to continue to practise from 6 April must apply for restoration. Restoration forms (including specialty restoration forms) can be downloaded from the GOC website. Forms may be completed and returned to the GOC in advance of 6 April. Correctly completed applications for restoration will be processed within ten working days of receipt, except where a declaration has been provided, or where the application is for restoration following erasure by a Fitness to Practise committee.
