Registrants back online retention in GOC survey

10 Jun 2011

GOC registrants have given the thumbs-up to the regulator’s new online retention system in a recent survey.

Of 885 practitioners replying to the survey, 86 per cent reported completing their application in under 10 minutes, with 80 per cent describing the process as ‘very easy’ or ‘easy’.

The email survey sought feedback on the system, which 95 per cent of applicants chose to use in its first year of operation.

GOC Head of Registration, Philip Hallam said: “The survey provided us with a lot of valuable feedback about our online retention system. We’re delighted that the vast majority of registrants found it quick and easy to use, but nonetheless we received many useful suggestions about how we might improve the system further. We’ll give all submissions careful consideration before next year’s retention period.”

Online retention is also now available for students, who have until 15 July to apply at www.optical.org. The GOC intends to introduce the system for business registrants next year.

The survey also showed a positive view of the GOC’s customer service. While three-quarters of respondents had no need to contact the GOC’s registration team at all, 84 per cent of those who did so felt their query was dealt with courteously and efficiently.

The GOC sent the survey to all fully-qualified registrants for whom it has an email address. It was also available on the GOC website throughout May. The regulator intends to survey student registrants later this year.
