The GOC today held a major stakeholder event, designed to update partner bodies on the Council’s plans and progress for implementing recommendations in the Government’s White Paper on healthcare professional regulation.

“Implementing the White Paper” was attended by representatives from the Department of Health, Appointments Commission, the optical press and other partner organisations. The event comes at a critical time as the GOC prepares to appoint a newly-constituted Council, to take up office from April 2009. Delegates received advance copies of the Department of Health’s consultation on the GOC Constitution Order, to be issued next week, and heard from the Appointments Commission, about the recruitment and selection process for the new Chair and Council members.

Delegates also received an update on plans for implementing the civil standard of proof in Fitness to Practise hearings. The GOC’s consultation on the civil standard of proof closes on 5 September.
