Don’t turn a blind eye – help the UK become a nation of quitters

Smoking doubles the risk of sight loss* but if people quit the risk decreases over time. One in five** people in the UK smokes – 63% want to quit and No Smoking Day (Wednesday 9 March 2011) aims to help them as with the right NHS support people are four times more likely to succeed in quitting.

So how can you help? No Smoking Day are asking opticians to support the campaign to help raise awareness of the impact smoking can have on the eyes:

  • Order a FREE campaign pack which includes a poster to put up in your opticians or order leaflets and other resources at www.nosmokingday.org.uk.
  • Highlight the damage smoking can do to the eye when giving people eye examinations – everyone quits for their own reasons and we aim to give people as much information as possible to help them decide when it is the right time for them to stop smoking
  • Offer awareness promotions such as discounted eye tests for people this No Smoking Day on Wednesday 9 March
  • Put No Smoking Day in your marketing plan for 2012

Nearly a million people will attempt to quit smoking this No Smoking Day, if you would like to help your current and potential customers quit smoking for the good of their eyes and general health please contact the No Smoking Day charity on 020 7739 5110 or at mail@nosmokingday.org.uk or visit www.nosmokingday.org.uk
