Insurance requirements clarified

Registrants must hold professional indemnity insurance valid for UK purposes. Today’s meeting of the GOC Council clarified the position after insurance cover became a registration requirement on 1 July this year.

Renewal forms for 2006/7 will ask registrants to confirm that they are covered for UK purposes. Overseas registrants who are currently on a ‘non-UK practising’ register will receive a letter from the Registrar outlining their options. Council members agreed that the GOC should explore ways to promote continued involvement from overseas opticians, and if possible find ways to maintain their registration with the Council.
