GOC launches 'phase two' of five-year strategy consultation

8 Dec 2009

Back to news listing

The General Optical Council (GOC) has today launched ‘phase two’ of a consultation that will help to determine the Council’s work priorities for 2010-15.

The Council has opened up its draft five-year strategic plan for debate and feedback. Currently, the GOC has identified three strategic priorities:
• Modernising to become more efficient and effective;
• Supporting UK opticians in delivering safe, high-quality care; and
• Promoting a wider understanding of the GOC’s role and engaging stakeholders in the GOC’s work.

In May, the GOC began the consultation process by engaging with patient groups, optical bodies, registrants and other stakeholders. The consultation looked at key issues such as how the Council can support patients and registrants and what else it can do to protect the public.

A large number of stakeholder organisations also delivered presentations to Council to offer their views on how the GOC’s role should develop over the next five years. This feedback has shaped the draft strategy.

The deadline for consultation responses is 1 February 2010. Download the consultation document and respond online or call Simon Grier on 020 7307 3478 to request a paper copy.
