The General Optical Council (GOC) is hosting a series of consultation events to find out how the Opticians Registers can be improved for employers, patients and the public, and registrants.

This Autumn, four events will be held around the UK, focusing on issues including:

  • What information should be published on the registers?
  • How can the GOC make the registers more accessible?
  • How can the GOC make the registers more user-friendly?

The Council will also be asking for thoughts on the Council’s work priorities and 2010-2015 strategy, including issues such as:

  • What should the GOC be doing to help registrants meet the standards?
  • What should the GOC be doing to protect the public?

Dian Taylor, Registrar and Chief Executive said: “The Opticians Registers are at the heart of what we do as a regulator. These consultation events are a great opportunity for us to listen to delegates’ views on how we can improve and adapt the registers to fit the needs of patients, the public, registrants and employers. We’ll also be taking on board feedback to help formulate the Council’s work priorities for the next five years.”

Each event will begin with a short presentation by the GOC, followed by group discussions on developing the registers for the future, and the Council’s 2010-15 strategy.

An informal drinks and networking session will follow, with GOC staff and Council members on hand to listen to delegates’ views.

The events are free to attend, but space is limited so delegates should register their interest in advance. To reserve a place, register online. Alternatively, contact Simon Grier on 020 7307 3478 or email sgrier@optical.org
