The General Optical Council and College of Optometrists have once again teamed up to deliver a series of presentations to first year students at each of the UK universities offering a degree course in optometry. The GOC will also visit those institutions offering dispensing optics courses.

In hosting the road shows, the College and the GOC aim to give new optometry students an insight into the profession, to highlight the role of the GOC and requirements for registration and to raise awareness of the College and the variety of benefits available to its Student Associate Members.

The road shows, which are to take place in September and October, build on the success of a similar series of presentations delivered to students over the past few years. New students will have the opportunity to meet with representatives from the GOC and the College, including staff and practising optometrists from a variety of backgrounds, and learn more about both organisations, and the Scheme for Registration, in an informal setting.

The College will also provide students with a Fresher Pack, containing useful items, donated by the industry, such as PD rules, pen torches, memory sticks, sliding pocket magnifiers, occluders, and fact sheets.
