Council nominates new member

Richard Broughton has been nominated as a member of the GOC, to replace Professor Nathan Efron. The decision was taken at today’s meeting of Council. Richard is senior partner in the John Harwood Partnership, a small group of independent practices in Surrey and Hampshire. He is a past president of the College of Optometrists, and has held numerous other positions with professional bodies. His membership will run from 1 January to 31 December 2006, when the post will be due for re-election.

Professor Efron resigned with effect from 31 December 2005. He leaves to take up a teaching post in his native Australia. Acting chairman Geoff Harris paid tribute to Efron, who he said had provided a ‘distinguished and distinctive’ service to the GOC, and whose energy, insight, skills and experience would be greatly missed.
