CET deadline approaching

Registrants now have just over six months remaining to earn the CET points they need to stay on the register after 31 December 2012.


2012 is the final year of our current CET cycle, before a new cycle starts for 2013-15 with enhancements to the scheme.

Students must renew registration by 15 July

Student optometrists and dispensing opticians have until 15 July to apply to renew their GOC registration for 2012/13.

All students must, by law, be registered with the GOC in order to study optometry or dispensing optics.

Kam Gohil completes Everest trek

Kam Gohil, a member of our Investigation Committee ( IC ), has recently returned from completing a 12 day trek to Everest Base camp at 5,545m (18,192ft) above sea level.


The trek, with a fellow registrant Jayesh Maru, was in aid of Vision Aid Overseas and they were able to raise an impressive £5,500.

GOC welcomes Law Commissions review

The GOC has welcomed the Law Commissions’ review of UK healthcare regulation.


The GOC supports the broad approach proposed by the Law Commissions of a single overarching legislative framework for healthcare regulators.

Trading Standards Institute conference


From 26-28 June we will be exhibiting at the Trading Standards Institute conference in Manchester.


GOC staff will be explaining our role to trading standards officers.


Topics will include the importance of using a registered optician, business registration, illegal contact lens sales and the types of complaint the GOC can and can't help with.
