Promoting your registration to patients

Being part of a regulated profession means your patients can be assured of your knowledge and skills. Demonstrating your registration status to your patients enables them to put extra trust in you or your business.

To promote your registration with us, you can download one of our ‘I’m registered’ logos from MyGOC. Simply go to the download a registration toolkit section and download a logo with your own GOC number on.

The logos have been designed for use on websites or on printed letterheads, stationery and prescription cards. They are also available for display in your practice, whether in the waiting room or consultation area.

GOC Head of Registration Philip Hallam explained, “There is a real benefit to registrants in promoting their GOC registration to patients. Knowing that their practitioner is registered gives patients confidence that their optician has the right skills, knowledge and training to treat them effectively.”

Other ways of demonstrating your professional status to patients include:

  • Wearing a name badge which includes your GOC registration number and registered title;
  • Explaining what GOC registration means if a patient asks;
  • Displaying your registration certificate in your consulting room;
  • If you’re a mobile worker or locum, where possible carrying your GOC registration card to identify yourself to patients; and
  • Displaying a name plate with registered title and GOC number, for example on your consulting room door.
