FTP guidance consultation

We have launched a consultation on draft guidance for our Fitness to Practise (FTP) Rule 16. To have your say, please respond to our public consultation by 19 August. We value your input and would appreciate any feedback.

The guidance is for use by our Investigation Committee (IC). IC considers whether allegations received against GOC registrants should be referred to the Fitness to Practise Committee, and if not, what the next course of action should be.

Rule 16 is a common ‘checks and balances’ provision used by healthcare regulators when new evidence or information comes to light after the IC decision to refer a matter to the FTP Committee for a hearing.

The purpose of this guidance is to assist registrants and IC to understand the procedure. Once Council have agreed any suggestions arising from this consultation to the draft, the guidance will be published for use by applicants and the Investigation Committee. We want your feedback on:

1. Is the guidance clear on the background and reasons for of Rule 16 guidance?

2. Does the guidance clearly explain how we will process applications made under Rule 16?

3. Will the guidance help ensure the decisions made by the Investigation Committee are consistent?

4. Will the guidance help those who are making a Rule 16 applications understand the factors that will be taken into account when reaching a decision?

5. Will the guidance help those who are making a Rule 16 decision understand the factors that will be taken into account when reaching a decision?

6. Do you have any other comments on the draft guidance?

The consultation closes on 19 August. For full details and to respond online visit our website.
