Business Standards update

Our new Standards for Optical Businesses have been published and we have some exciting things planned to help get you ready for them taking effect on 1 October 2019.

We’ve developed the new Standards to maintain consistency with the individual standards, keep pace with the fast changing professions and ensure they are futureproof as the optical sector will continue to change.

The Standards make clearer our expectations of business registrants and largely reflect what optical businesses should be doing already. The new Standards should be read alongside the Standards for Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians.

During the summer, we will produce a short-animated video outlining the key topics the Business Standards cover and the benefits of business registration. The video will be uploaded to our YouTube channel, so make sure you check it to stay up to date with all things GOC!

We will also hold a webinar in September which will discuss how the standards can be applied and offer registrants the opportunity to ask any questions they might have about implementation or the standards more generally. More information about the webinar will be coming soon.

In October, we will launch a microsite which will include both the Standards for Optical Businesses and Standards for Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians and general information about business registration.

In the meantime, you can familiarise yourself with the new Standards for Optical Businesses here.
