GOC student roadshows

For the past several years, GOC staff volunteers have visited universities across the UK to attend our ‘student roadshows’, to explain to first year optical students what the GOC is and what we do. This September and October, staff volunteers have travelled to a total of 15 universities across the UK to present our student roadshows.

The roadshow involves a presentation which covers what our purpose is and a general overview of our four main functions: Standards, Education, Registration and Fitness to Practise. It also includes a brief update on the progress of our Education Strategic Review (ESR).

The purpose of the roadshows is to put a ‘face’ to the GOC, meet new students and answer any questions they might have. It’s also an opportunity for us to explain the Standards for Students and what our expectations of them are throughout their educational journey before becoming qualified.

We are always looking for ways to improve our student roadshows and make them more engaging. If you are a student and have any comments or suggestions, please email communications@optical.org.
