Welcome to eBulletin

Dear registrant,

Welcome to the June 2016 edition of eBulletin.

I would like to congratulate all registrants who successfully met their CET requirements for 2013-15 and renewed their GOC registration for 2016-17. Over 99 per cent of registrants completed both, a testament to the professionalism of optometrists and dispensing opticians.

Meeting your CET target is very important in maintaining your skills and knowledge, and demonstrating to the public that they can have full confidence in the competence of the practitioner they are being seen by.

The healthcare sector is evolving, and ensuring your skills stay up to date in this new environment is important. This is one of the reasons why we introduced new Standards of Practice in April 2016, which provide more detail and clarity on what we expect of you as a professional. The Standards replaced the existing Code of Conduct and, if you haven’t already, I strongly urge you to read and familiarize yourself with them.

Finally, I’d like to remind all student registrants that they must apply to renew their GOC student registration by 15 July 2016. As the academic year comes to a close and many of you will soon be off on holidays, I encourage you to apply as soon as possible.

Applying for retention is a legal requirement and takes just a few minutes. Maintaining your registration ensures that you remain on our registers, and therefore that you can continue in your studies.

Kind regards,

Samantha Peters
GOC Chief Executive and Registrar
