Welcome to eBulletin

Welcome to the July edition of eBulletin. After the departure of our former Chief Executive and Registrar Samantha Peters in June, we are looking forward to welcoming our new CEO Vicky McDermott in September. You can read more about her background and experience in this issue.

We have published a summary of the responses we received to our call for evidence on our Education Strategic Review. We were delighted with the quality of the responses and pleased that there is consensus among stakeholders about the future direction for eye care – this means we have a strong foundation for the next phase of the review.

Recently there has been an increased media focus on cases where drivers have continued to drive against the advice of a healthcare professional, leading to fatalities. In this issue of eBulletin we hear from the DVLA about their updated guidance, set out the relevant standards and look ahead to our plans to carry out research with registrants and the public.

This month we take a closer look at the work of the Registration team. Head of Registration, Michelle Norman, sets out some of the most important ways to engage with the register and how to streamline the renewal process.

We can also update you on our CET evaluation report, which brings together your views on how the current cycle is going so far.

Finally, you can read about how we are working with Trading Standards Officers to tackle the problem of illegal sales of zero-powered contact lenses.

With best wishes,

Alistair Bridge – Director of Strategy
