We’re recruiting two new registrant members of our Council and the closing date for applications, 4 February, is now just a week away.

Our Council sets our strategic direction and holds the executive to account. Becoming one of our 12 Council members is your chance to influence the way we work and how the profession is regulated in the future.

Registrants still in CET shortfall

A small number of registrants have still not met their CET points target for the 2010-12 cycle. All registrants must meet their points target before they can apply to renew their GOC registration.

GOC freezes registration fee

We have frozen our annual retention fee at £260 this year, making it the third consecutive reduction in real terms. For optometrists, this represents a real-terms reduction of 27% since April 2010 following cuts in the previous two years.

Meet the GOC

In the coming months we will be exhibiting at Optometry Tomorrow (17-18 March) and Optrafair (13-15 April).


Both events will give you the chance to meet GOC staff and ask questions or provide feedback about enhanced CET and other topical issues.

New GOC Chair


We will shortly be appointing our new Chair. The recruitment campaign took place before Christmas and we expect the new Chair to start in the near future.
