Welcome to the final eBulletin of 2015. 

In this edition, we remind all registrants of the CET deadline as we approach the end of this cycle and provide a video guide on our new Standards that come in to place in April 2016, We also welcome David Parkins as a new member of the GOC Council, and inform you all of a new duty issued by the Department of Health to ensure you report any FGM cases.

CET deadline fast approaching

All registrants are reminded that we are now into the final month of the 2013-2015 CET cycle. The deadline to meet all your CET requirements for this cycle is 31 December 2015.


If you have not done so already, please make sure you have met all your CET requirements. Please remember that you must accept points in MyCET for them to count.

Reporting FGM cases

As of 31 October 2015, the Department of Health has introduced a duty for all healthcare professionals to report any case of female genital mutilation in girls (FGM) under the age of 18 to the police.

News in brief

2016/17 fees

Our registration fees for 2016/17 have increased by £10. These are now £320 for fully qualified registrants and businesses. Fees for students have been frozen at £25. There is a £100 discount for anybody earning £12,000 or less per year.

Inflation is naturally part of the reason for the increase, but it is also due to a commitment to longer-term planning to ensure ongoing financial stability. For full details of the fees, please visit our website.

Whistleblowing consultation

We are consulting on a new policy looking at how we handle concerns raised by workers in the optical sector which may raise public interest or patient safety concerns.


The consultation will run until 21 January 2016. We encourage all registrants to respond by filling out a short survey at:
