Recruitment: education visiting panel members

Visitors webWe will soon be recruiting new members of our education visiting panel.

As part of our role regulating education providers for optometrists and dispensing opticians, we periodically make visits to monitor optical training institutions and professional qualifying examinations.

Visitors’ reports are used to determine whether to continue or withdraw approval of the training institution or professional examination. Visitors may also make recommendations for the revision or improvement of a course or examination.

We wish to appoint visitors in the following categories:

  • Optometrists
  • Ophthalmologists
  • Dispensing opticians
  • Lay members with experience of higher and/or further education

Candidates should have recent experience in either optical practise or in education and training.

Visitors are not salaried but receive a daily fee and will be appointed in the first instance, for three years, subject to annual review. Appointees will typically need to be available for ten days a year, plus two days for training purposes in the first year. Visits take place across the UK.

Appointees must be able to analyse complex information and make reliable and objective judgements. Prior experience of audit and quality assurance would be useful but full training will be given.

For application details visit the current vacancies page of our website from next week.

We are committed to the active promotion and support of equal opportunities.
