Student retention deadline

Student deadline webThe final deadline for students to renew their GOC registration for 2012/13 is tomorrow, Friday 31 August.

87.6% of students applied by the original 15 July deadline, with those who missed the deadline now having to pay a £10 late application fee on top of their £20 retention fee. The figure marked a slight increase from last year’s 87.3%.

280 students still need to apply by 31 August, or risk being removed from the registers.

Philip Hallam, GOC head of registration, said: “Since we introduced the MyGOC online retention system, far more students have been meeting this important deadline.

“However those students who missed the deadline should remember that GOC registration is a legal requirement. Until they register they may be unable to take part in clinical training or exams and are putting their future careers at risk.”

Student optometrists and dispensing opticians have had to register with the GOC since 2005. They come into contact with patients during their education and their vocational training.

Students with registration queries can either contact the registration team on 020 7580 3898 (option 1), email or send a tweet to @GOC_UK.
