News in brief

GOC vacancies

We are currently seeking to appoint an assessor of non-UK registration applications to assess applicants who have trained outside of the UK and are seeking to join the GOC register. The closing date for this vacancy is 09:00 on Wednesday 10 May. A full job description is available on our website.

There is still time to submit your application for the vacancies on our Education and Registration Committees. We are seeking to appoint a dispensing optician to our Education Committee and one responsible officer to our Registration Committee. The closing date for both vacancies is 12:00 on Tuesday 2 May 2017. Please visit our website and download the candidate information pack to apply online.

New Council appointments

We have announced that we have appointed four new members to Council – two registrants and two lay members. Josie Forte and Roshni Samra join Council as registrant members and Clare Minchington and Mike Galvin join as lay members. All new appointees took up their posts on 1 April 2017. Events round up

It’s been a busy time for optical events – we were pleased to attend both Optometry Tomorrow in March and Optrafair at the beginning of April. Thank you to all of the registrants who came to our stand to chat about CET, our new candour guidance and our Education Strategic Review. Answering your questions and listening to your honest feedback is really valuable, so thank you for your insight and for engaging with us when there were lots of things to see and do at the events!
