News in Brief

Student Renewal

The time has come again for students to renew their registration with GOC in order to continue to study as an optometrist or dispensing optician .

If a student fails to renew their registration and pay the £30 fee, they may be removed from the register and from clinical training and examinations.

To renew your registration, log in to your My GOC account here. The deadline to renew is 31 August.

Summer Photoshoot: Call for volunteers

We will be having a photoshoot this summer to produce new photos for our website and other publications. We are looking for a practice in London to volunteer the use of their practice for a morning. We would also need an optometrist and a member of the dispensing team willing to be in the photos.

In return, we will give you a DVD of the photos you can use. If you're interested, please email communications@optical.org.

Living Wage Employer

The General Optical Council is pleased to announce it is now a Living Wage employer. A real living wage is based on what is required to live rather than the government minimum.

The current living wage in Greater London is £10.20 per hour and £8.75 in the rest of the UK.

The GOC now joins a list of over 4,200 other companies that are Living Wage employers. To find out more about living wage, visit https://www.livingwage.org.uk/.

2016-18 CET Cycle

We are now entering the final six months of the 2016-2018 CET cycle. As such, you have until 31 December 2018 to complete and accept sufficient points to meet all of your CET requirements. All registrants must meet their target CET points over the three year cycle, with at least 50 per cent interactive points.
