Education Strategic Review

In our October eBulletin, we gave you an update on our Education Strategic Review (ESR) and informed you of an upcoming consultation on new draft Education Standards for education providers and Learning Outcomes for part of our work to ensure that students are equipped for the rules of the future.

The consultation is now live and we are asking registrants and stakeholders to give their views on the content of the Education Standards and Learning Outcomes, our proposed timeframe for implementing changes, how we might link the learning outcomes to CET, and continuing student registration.

The new Education Standards and Learning Outcomes incorporate the feedback we received from our previous ESR consultation on the concepts and principles that could underpin optical education and training in the future, and our CET review. The aim is to provide a robust approach to approval and quality assurance of optical education that ensures public protection as roles within the optical sector change, whilst giving education providers more flexibility in deciding how to deliver their programmes.

We encourage you to get involved as the responses to this consultation will help ensure our final proposals are future-proof and fit for purpose. They will inform our risk and impact assessment regarding the introduction of these new Education Standards and Learning Outcomes. We will carefully consider all views before implementing changes.

To have your say, visit the GOC Consultation Hub. The consultation will close on 25 February 2019.
