November 2013 Council BW1

How we work

The 12 members of Council will normally meet in public
four times a year.  Members also attend strategic
seminars in the intervening months, to discuss key
areas of our work.

The Council has eight committees, three of which are non-staturory and have been constituted in line with good governance practice:

  • Audit and Risk Committee
  • Remuneration Committee
  • Nominations Committee

The other five committees are staturory committees of the GOC as defined under the Opticians Act and related Rules:

  • Companies Committee
  • Education
  • Investigation
  • Registration
  • Standards

The Council's Fitness to Practise and Registration Appeals Committee are populated by independent hearings panel members.
