Renewing your registration

1. Q. What is the fee for 2020/21?

A. £30 

 

2. Q. Is there a late fee?

A. No. 

 

3. Q. Where do I apply to renew my registration?

A. Log into MyGOC on our website and use the ‘Apply for Renewal’ button.

 

4. Q. When do I need to complete renewal/pay?

A. By 15 July 2020 to avoid us beginning the process of removing you from the register. If we begin this removal process you will be issued with a statutory notice of our intention to remove you from the register.

If you still haven’t completed the renewal process by the 31 August 2020, you will be removed from the register after 1 September 2020. 

 

5. Q. What happens if I don’t apply for renewal?

A. If you do not complete your renewal application and pay the fee by 31 August 2020 you will be removed from the register. You will then be unable to continue your studies and/or training and your education establishment will be notified.

 

6. Q. Can I withdraw from the register?

A. You can withdraw by logging into your MyGOC account. In the renewal menu select “withdraw”. If you withdraw, your registration still continues until 31 September and you will stay on the register until that date. If you don’t apply to renew and pay the fee, we will remove you from the register on 1 September. Once you are removed you cannot keep the GOC number from your previous registration.

 

7. Q. Can I pay by credit or debit card?

A. Yes (apart from American Express), you will be asked to complete card details at the end of the online renewal process.

 

8. Q. Can I pay over the phone or by cheque?

A. No

 

9. Q. Can I have a receipt?

A. Yes. Once your payment has been processed, you can download a receipt from your MyGOC account. This will be available five days after paying. We don’t post receipts.

Information about equality & diversity

11. Q. Why does the GOC collect Equality, Diversity and Inclusion data and what does the GOC do with it?

A. We are committed to treating everyone fairly and meeting our legal responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010 and related legislation (such as the Human Rights Act 1998). One of the ways we do this is by asking people to provide information about their ethnicity, disability, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion and beliefs, carer responsibilities, pregnancy and maternity, marital status and age. We use the information our registrants give us to analyse and report on statistical trends in optical education and practice in the UK. With this data, we have a better base to assess impact, avoid unintended barriers for particular groups and advance the promotion of equality and diversity within our organisation and in relation to our public body remit. Providing this data is voluntary but it is important to help us to understand trends in the professions.

 

If you choose to provide us with this information, we will keep it confidential and hold it securely in line with data protection and other relevant legislation. We will anonymise any data we publish so you cannot be identified. The information will be used strictly in line with our Approach to EDI Monitoring Statement and in compliance with all applicable data legislation.

13. Q. Who will be able to see this data about me? 

A. This information is strictly limited to employees who complete data analytics.
