CET Review

What is the CET Review?

We are undertaking a review of our CET scheme for fully qualified optometrists and dispensing opticians. Our current CET scheme was introduced in 2013, but the optical sector and the work that optometrists and dispensing opticians carry out is changing.

Highly trained optical professionals who are continuously learning, developing and improving, are vital for the health and safety of the public. We are therefore committed to ensuring that our CET scheme continues to support the needs of our registrants and improves the safety and quality of care patients and the public receive.

Review timeline

We intend to introduce significant improvements to the scheme from 2020 onwards. There will be a transition period from 1 January 2019 where registrants will continue to undertake CET. Our focus throughout the duration of this period is to ensure that the public are protected and trust and confidence in the profession is maintained. We will provide further details shortly.
