GOC launches improved registers search
It is now easier for the public to check their optician is registered following the launch of the improved registers search facility on our website.
You can now search for a local optician with a registered specialty - for example a contact lens optician, or an optometrist able to independently prescribe drugs for eye conditions.

Significant drop in student retention removals
This September we removed 217 students from our registers for failing to renew their registration for 2011-12.
The number represents a significant drop in the number of student optometrists and dispensing opticians failing to meet the 31 August late application deadline. At the same time last year, we removed 386 students from our registers.
